• How to Design a Kids' Party

Planning a child's birthday party may seem like a daunting task, but it doesn't have to be. A little bit of creativity and ingenuity can go a long way to help you design a great party. Just work with your strengths and keep a few tips in mind and you'll be on your way to hosting a fun and fabulous kids' party.

The first thing to consider when planning a child's party is space. Kids of all ages have boundless energy and can get pretty rambunctious, so you want to make sure you have lots of open space for them to run and play safely. Large backyards clear of debris and/or furniture are great, but you can also work with indoor spaces and parks. Just make sure there's plenty of room for all the guests and the boundaries are clear, so no one is crowded but you don't risk a child wandering away unexpectedly.

Second, work with your kids to come up with activities and decorations. What are your child's interests? What does he/she do for fun a typical weekend afternoon? Use these traits and habits to come up with ideas, but make sure you're flexible and don't try to adhere to a schedule. Kids can sometimes have the most fun with unstructured play time.

Finally, be prepared ahead of time. Have plenty of food and drinks, as well as extra plates, silverware, cups, and napkins. Anticipate spills or messes and have the right materials on hand.
